Sea fishing is divided into two main forms; Shore fishing (Beach casting) and Boat fishing. Sea fishing can be a very simple form of fishing and very enjoyable, with the added benefit of taking your catch home for the plate!

What you need to get started;

Shore Fishing

  • Rod – (13ft 4-8oz is a good starting point)
  • Fixed spool Reel
  • Line
  • Ready-made paternoster rigs
  • Bait – lug, rag, crab, mackerel, squid
  • Assortment of weights (2 to 6 oz)
  • Tripod

How to set up and get started;

  • Attach the reel to the rod using the reel screw fitting
  • Ensure bail are is open and begin to thread the line through each of the rod eyes
  • Choose a ready-made rig and tie it to the line with a hoop or a swivel
  • Thread your choice of bait around each of the hooks
  • Once you have chosen where to fish….cast in, place the rod in the tripod rest and wait for a bite!

  • Multiplier Reel
  • Line or Braid
  • Ready-made rigs
  • Bait
  • Assortment of weights (12 to3 6oz depending on depth)
  • Lures and Perks
  • Floatation Suit

How to set up and get started;

  • Attach the reel to the rod using the reel screw fitting
  • Click the reel in to “freespool” begin to thread the line/braid through each of the rod eyes

Either…

  • Choose a ready-made rig and tie it to the line with a hoop or a swivel
  • Thread your choice of bait around each of the hooks

Or…

  • If lure fishing, slide a weight up the reel line, attach a swivel then, to that a 10-15ft length of line. Tie on your chosen lure or perk and lower to the bottom of the sea, jigging it up and down and wait for a bite!
  • Once you have chosen where to fish….cast in, place the rod in the tripod rest and wait for a bite!

This is fishing at its purest form and as its names suggests, it’s fishing for pure pleasure. Many people see angling as an ideal way to escape the stresses of everyday life, with the added benefit of being close to nature. A pleasure angler will generally be happy catching anything that pulls their float under….no matter what species or size.

What you need to get started;

  • Fishing Rod – (10ft float rod is a good start)
  • Fishing Reel
  • Fishing Line
  • Selection of Floats
  • Selection of split shot weights
  • Selection of hooks (Eyed or hooks to nylon are best to start with)
  • Disgorger (to help you take the hook out of the fish without harming the fish)
  • Bait/bait box (start with maggots, casters, worms or corn)
  • National Rod licence. Available from Post office and online. This is for ANYONE fishing from the age of 12. It is vital that you have this licence BEFORE you go fishing.

How to set up and get started;

  • Attach the reel to the rod using the reel screw fitting

  • After the line has passed through the top eye of the rod, thread the line through the desired float. Secure it at the required depth with the correct amount of shot. The float will generally tell you the weight of shot you require.
  • Tie the hook at the end of the line with your preferred knot
  • Thread your choice of bait onto the hook….and it’s time to begin fishing!
